4 Stars How do these vendors sleep at night?!
DO NOT PAY THESE PRICES. Call your local TOYSRUS and ask which days they get shipments. Then go those mornings. After 2 Tuesday trips, I had every piece I was looking for. Amazon should not allow people to price gorge like this. These vendors are the ones that go to ToysRUs and buy everything, so the supply is low then mark it up. If they didn’t do that, it wouldn’t be in short supply! Not sure how they can sleep at night!

4 Stars Great Toy, Overpriced here
This is a really cute toy and I am hoping it makes my daughters happy so I don’t have to buy a REAL hamster which is what they really want(LOL). BUT, these prices are ridiculous. Amazon is fulfilling these orders through 3rd parties who are setting the prices so I don’t exactly blame Amazon, BUT it is disappointing the way Amazon is marketing them. However, if you promised a little one these toys, this may be the only way to get them. Someone I know contacted the manufacturer and from what I understand the stores are only getting so many before Christmas and then thats it. Apparently they haven’t been able to make enough to keep up with the demand. I spoke to someone at Walmart today and they said that they already got their allotment and they won’t be getting any more before the holidays and they were sold out already. YIKES!

3 Stars overpriced
If I hadn’t promised this toy to my Grandchild I would have NEVER have purchased it. It wss not a “zhu Zhu”,I can’t rmrember the brand, I have since purchased another at a local Toy store and realized the one I got on line was a knock off. Shame on Me, but it will never happen again.

I didn’t know this toy was so popular and my four year old (after seeing tons of commercials} asked for one, after I said yes and could find one no where in town I resorted to amazon.

My Grandchild is so happy with the pet, I accidently stopped in a toy store, they had very few left but I was able to purchase not only the Hampster, but one of the assesories She wanted for LESS money then I paid for the Hampster on line!

4 Stars Painful Days Are These
I’m more than a bit disappointed in Amazon, usually my favorite “mall” of choice. This little toy – one of “the hottest Christmas toys of 2009″ is designed to be an excellent gift in this difficult times. I picked one up a few weeks ago because it seemed interesting and I needed a small gift for a hospital party with a $[...] limit.

The child who received it was over-the-top excited and I watched the faux rodent zip, dodge and weave all across the floor. It even had all of the adults entranced and laughing.

Handed from kid to kid, dropped, run into furniture and inspected completely by ten four year olds, I believe it is pretty durable.

The other party goers agreed it was a super gift.

At [...] apiece, parents with a couple of young ones can make a super holiday splash with the little stuffed pets and their accessories. What could better as we head into what will surely be a tough holiday for so many?

I’m lucky, my son is grown so the urgency of fun stuff for a budget holiday has receded. His gifts are easy (well, sort of!). But we still have little ones in the family and I certainly recall tough years when we struggled to try and make sure all of the kids enjoyed that same delight on Christmas we had as kids.

5 Stars Get Over It!!!
Get over it people!!! It’s called supply & demand. If it doesn’t sell on Amazon it will sell on Ebay for those prices. And when the supply catches up to the demand, the price will drop. Some people will pay for the convenience of getting something without having to get trampled on black friday or having to call their local retail store every single day to see if it is in stock. I bought mine for an inflated price and my kid loves it. And so be it. Be happy that you were lucky enough to get it at a regular retail price and stop bashing a good product for no reason.

I agree with the rest of the comments! I also wish the company would stop running the commercials if they cannot keep up with the demand. My daughter really wanted this toy and just had to tell her the truth, that we would not be able to buy her this toy until it was available in the stores at the price that it should be. Us parents just need to stick together and not purchase these toys at these prices! We have to stop giving in to our children and teach them that sometimes they just have to wait for things that they want. This is now a world of instant gratification and it is hurting our children. I speak from experience as I am now paying the price with my 19 year old who just wants everything handed to him without working for it (and guess who he blames for this!). I will not make this mistake with my 11 and 6 year old. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest and I hope you make the right decision and not purchase this toy from this seller.

I am disabled. Always shop for my sweet grandchildren on line @ amazon.com Today I am very disappointed and depressed. Ordered the Zhu Zhu hamster and starter house set for my grand daughters birthday. Thought it was a high price I couldn’t afford but wanted to get her something she wanted for her birhday. [...] I could have bought her several things w/this outrageous price including the set @ Walmart. We really need internet police if Amazon is going to allow this type thing to happen to rip off the elderly and disabled. I am checking on return policies. It is unfortunate that some company owners can do this and still sleep at night.

I agree with the other reviewer if people would just let parents buy these for their kids instead of buying to mark up at outrageous prices and stop taking advantage of the consumer. I already had to explain that Santa is unable to get these pets for my twins for this holiday. They wanted to know why and that Santa can do everything…I had to tell them the zhu zhu pet maker machine broke and can’t be fixed so no more zhu zhu pets…they ask why the commercial is still on …so now i have heartbroken kids who won’t get the one thing they really wanted for Christmas….

1 Star This Toy Needs To Be Recalled. Don’t Bother Buying It.
I bought this hamster toy and all its accessories for my 4 year old grand daughter. She was very excited about the toy and I thought it was a very clever toy. However, within minutes of playing with it she was pinched severely by the hamster’s wheels when she picked it up and put it on her hand (just like the child in the advertisement is doing). I put the toy on my hand to see how it happened. I was shocked at how hard it pinched and would not release the skin. I had to pull the toy off me hard. The wheels spin fast and change direction randomly. It’s fine on the floor if you don’t pick it up. However, that’s not how this toy is advertised. It is supposed to be a “pet”. What child isn’t going to pick up their pet hamster during play? It gets even worse. The following day, the hamster’s wheels caught the child’s hair and started climbing up fast to her scalp. Again, not releasing. She was screaming in pain and fear. The only thing that prevented her scalp from being cut and needing emergency treatment was that I was closely supervising her and able to get my fingers between her scalp and the wheels. She lost a clump of hair and was traumatized by it.

I’ve spent the last week trying to return the hamster and all its accessories that I bought through Amazon. The manufacturer was contacted, but although expressed concern does not want to take the hamster back directly and feels the warning in the instructions is sufficient. BUYER BEWARE. This is a danger and should be pulled from the market.

5 Stars I’m lovin’ the Zhu Zhu pets – Stock up on the AAA batteries…
I got up early and was able to get Zhu Zhu Pets hamsters at WalMart. So glad because I know they are selling out stores because I’ve been calling everywhere.

Anyway, my kids have been playing with them all day. And then hair got wrapped around the little wheel and I thought one had broke so I spent forever trying to get the hair off — but that’s not what was making an additional squealing noise and making the wheels stop turning.

The little Zhu Zhu pets hamsters just needed new batteries. They came with 2 AAA batteries from the manufacturer — and I’m sure they weren’t in the store that long so that little hands could’ve worn out the batteries thru the “try me” window.

They must’ve just come with batteries not as good as the ones I changed them into. Because I just popped in some Duracel or whatever batteries — and now the Zhu Zhu Pets run even faster than when we first bought them this morning.

My children are playing with them as I write.

Now we want all the Zhu Zhu pets in the collection — and the accessories. Maybe by Christmas or before…

Nothing adventurous about this ball! More like aggravation! The pet does not roll with the ball it falls on its side and the ball falls apart!

4 Stars Be careful
Be careful who you are buying from. Realize that Amazon isn’t the one charging these prices. It is the sellers. Definitely do your homework because in some cases the sellers are charging 3xs the retail value for these toys simply because they are popular. I personally do not think Amazon should allow such sellers because it does turn people off to this site and if they are legit sellers they really do not need to be taking advantage of people.

Great toy. Wait it out and you’ll get one for ten dollars or less.

3 Stars Wait till the prices come down, then buy
I brought the hamsters at TrU for $[...] each. The toys are cute but only worth the original retail price. The prices charged by the third party re-sellers are heavily marked up. The manufacturer gets no benefit from this situation as it causes bad will against the company and the product. Ditto for Amazon. I bet that the manufacturer is ramping up production as fast as possible and that these will be in stock in huge numbers pretty soon and those who brought out the first inventory will be forced to reduce their prices for the toys they still have. Such is the law of supply and demand. These will certainly be available before Christmas.

4 Stars Amazon is a rip-off
I verified the above review and in some cases,Amazon is charging 6 times more than Toys R Us. Check out the 3 hamster set at Toys R Us for 22.99. Amazon is selling it for $139.98!!!! I used to buy all of my Christmas presents from Amazon. Not anymore!

5 Stars Learned My Lesson This Time!
Ok I admit I spoil my kids! When they see these ZHU ZHU PETS on TV, they of course want them and I cave and off we go looking LITERALLY ALL OVER TOWN TRYING TO FIND THEM! We must have went to 8-10 stores and have YET TO FIND AN ACTUAL ZHU ZHU PET HAMSTER! Most stores don’t even have an empty rack as they must not be carrying them yet! And three of the stores were Toyrus and each one said they can’t keep them on the shelves.

Six Hours Later, We did finally find one lone ADVENTURE BALL for which we now have with no Zhu Zhu pet yet! But we did try it out with the neighbors Zhu Zhu Hamster and it is Hilarious as it acts like a Real Hamster in The Adventure Ball. So as I always do whether it’s Bakugan, Littlest Pet Shop, Star Wars, Barbie, and now Zhu Zhu Pets I end up WASTING TONS of TIME and GAS MONEY trying to find them at Multiple Stores when I should have Just Paid A Little Extra and Had them Shipped Right To my Door by Buying them off Amazon…Oh well, Live and Learn I Guess!

Bought this for 8 year old neice who loves to play with her pets. Loves to let it wander around on its own and carry it in her blankets and carry pouch. Sure beats buying a real hamster!

5 Stars “So Cute, just like real”
We now have 3 Zhu Zhu pets and they are adorable, just like having the real thing without the cleanup!!! Looking forward to purchasing the other items to make them a home of their own. My daughter is 8 and just loves them. I like picking them up and holding them, they are so soft.

1 Star Go go pets don’t GO
We bought two of these toys through Amazon. Both came from different sellers. One worked for about 20 minutes. The other one never moved at all. They make noises, but GO Nowhere. Now I have the headache of trying to get the MFG to return the toys as neither seller will accept returns that have been opened!!!

5 Stars Super fun toy – sold out everywhere – Love AMAZON!!
Although the prices are out of this world sometimes, you can always count on Amazon to have that HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW TOY!!! If you don’t have to have it now feel free to shop store to store to store to store until you can find it. If you can afford it, Amazon will have it!!! This little hamster has brought us loads of fun!! The accessories make it even better. Have extra AA Batteries on hand because this only comes with demo batteries, so you might even have to change the batteries before you play with it for the first time. Our favorite accessory so far is the adventure ball. You can bet this is going to the be the #1 Hot Toy for 2009!
